This month has gone very quickly, it doesn’t seem like two minutes ago that I published Rowan’s 14 month update.
Today has been a brilliant day and I think Rowan has celebrated turning 15 months old by attempting to walk for the majority of the day. He’s only taking six steps at a time and then either nearly face planting (I’ve caught him in time before he actually did it) or falling on his bottom. It’s been fantastic to watch and he’s been getting more and more confident as the day has gone on, I think we may have a proper walker on our hands over the weekend.
Well done Rowan. I’m so happy that we’ve not pushed him to walk and he’s built up his own confidence and has once again shown us that he’ll do things in his own time, I think we can live with that.
Rowan at 15 Months
Rowan was weighed on the 3rd September and weighed in at 22lb 14oz, he’s put 1lb on since June. His weight has slowed down and he’s still on the 50th percentile line. The health visitors were very pleased with his progress.
He’s definitely in his 12-18 month clothes now, he was only just getting into them last month.
Our little boy looks like a proper little boy now and not a baby anymore. It’s truly amazing to see.
Last month I reported that he had eight teeth with one on the way. The one on the way has made an appearance, and it’s the first molar on the bottom right hand side. They seem to be coming in the correct order now.
He’s very playful and quite cheeky at the moment and loves to make you laugh, and make himself laugh too. The stubborn streak still remains.
Rowan is even more obsessed with books and wants to be read to ALL the time, which has been a little difficult over the past few days as I’ve had a very tickly throat and it gets worse when I talk. He’s really cute as he now gets the book that he wants you to read, passes it to you and then scrabbles up onto your knee to have a cuddle and be read to. I love it and I’m getting used to having to read the book he’s chosen 50 times, I just lap up the cuddles.
Lots of climbing is going on, climbing onto the coffee table, onto the television unit, on mummy and daddy, onto the sofa, etc, etc. Please note we don’t encourage him to climb onto tables normally, or television units!
Rowan is feeding himself with his spoon more at mealtimes, which is fabulous. I’m learning to cope with the amount of mess he makes!
Last month I commented about Rowan’s speech and that he wasn’t saying much, this is still the case but he’s definitely now pointing at things and trying to name them. He’s also making lots of new sounds.
The cutest thing that he has been doing this month is every time I say the word ‘Duck’ he makes a noise which sounds a little like quacking, and he is then able to move his hand to sign the word ‘Duck’.
I’m going to do this as bullet points going forward as it’s a bit easier to list everything.
- Attempting to walk
- Books and anything with a hinge, doors, gates, etc
- Going to the park, as soon as he sees it he starts shouting and kicking his legs
- Putting his toys away
- Helping mummy put his rolled up dirty nappies in the nappy bags and also his cloth nappies into the dirty nappy bucket
- Getting dressed
- Having his nappy changes
Rowan has now dropped his morning bottle, which was one of our aims listed on his 14 month update. He now just has a bottle before his afternoon nap at around 1pm and his bed time bottle. Actually, I shouldn’t say bottle anymore, we have also weaned him off the baby bottles and he now takes his milk from a toddler training cup, again this was another of our aims which I listed last month. Two gold stars for us I say.
During the day Rowan drinks water from a doidy cup which are brilliant and I highly recommend. More often than not the water ends up all over the floor but he’s doing really well with it. He loves water!
Rowan is doing much better this month with his eating (touch wood) and is eating everything in sight for breakfast, lunch and his snacks. He’s a little picky at dinnertime/teatime.
His favourite foods this month have been satsumas, clementines, grapes, bananas, pasta and Organix Carrot Stix.
His routine has slightly changed this month with him not having his morning bottle anymore. He’s also going to bed slightly later as he now watches the dreaded In the Night Garden before bedtime. With a slightly later bedtime he’s sleeping in a little bit more too. His new routine is as follows:
- 7.20am – 7.30am : Wake up time and nappy change
- 7.40am: Breakfast
- 8.45am: Get dressed
- 10.30am: Snack time
- 12noon: Lunch
- 1pm – 3pm (ish) – Bottle of milk and then down for his nap
- 3.30pm: Snack time
- 5pm: Tea/Dinner
- 6pm: Naked time and story time
- 6.50pm: Bath
- 7.15pm Bedtime milk and sleepy time
A few other things have happened this month too.
We bought Rowan his first pair of shoes and from what I’ve seen today I think they are going to come in handy very soon. You can read about his first shoes here.
Rowan and I were also luckily named as brand representatives for a gorgeous, handmade children’s clothing company, called Maebelle & Bo. The clothes are brilliant quality, mostly created from organic cotton and there are some lovely Christmas prints on offer at the moment. Take a look at the Maebelle & Bo Etsy shop to find out more. I’ll be introducing you to the lady behind the company very soon.
