14 Weeks Pregnant | Baby #2

Well it’s official, I’m now safely in my second trimester and turned 14 weeks pregnant a few days ago. It feels like it’s taken ages to get to this stage as we found out we were expecting at around 4.5 weeks. I’d been using a Clearblue Advanced Fertility Monitor  to track my irregular cycles and it asked me to take a pregnancy test early and it was positive!

It’s also been an anxiety filled first trimester after our miscarriage last year, even after a really successful 12 week scan I still feel a little nervous. I don’t think I’ll be able to relax until our baby is safe in our arms although we’ll get there, I think as time goes on and the 20 week scan happens then I should start relaxing a little more.

14 Weeks Pregnant Baby #2

I’m not going to lie, the past eight weeks have been filled with ALL DAY nausea that’s been so much worse than it was with Rowan. I’ve been unable to leave the house at times as so many different smells and situations have made the nausea worse. I’ve had to avoid supermarkets as the thought makes me want to heave (in fact even typing that is making me feel very sick!). Restaurants and Cafes are out too and anywhere with strong smells. There’s been some days when the smell of our own home makes me gag, it’s not dirty but I have spent ages sniffing around downstairs to work out where it was coming from with no obvious solution!

I’ve been completely off food but over the past three days my appetite has started getting better and the nausea appears to be decreasing (fingers crossed!). I’m hoping that the infamous ‘pregnancy glow’ appears very soon as I feel pretty gross.

Anyway, onto the more fun stuff. Baby is now the size of a peach and weighs around 1.52 oz and is around 8.7 cm in length. I’ve definitely been feeling little flutters for the past week or so and a few more significant movements, I think you’re more sensitive to movements earlier on in a second pregnancy as you sort of know what you’re looking out for and can recognise what’s going on.

My bump has only just appeared and I’m excited to see it growing. I didn’t show with Rowan until around 20 weeks as I’ve got quite a long torso and baby has plenty of room to stretch out. I can’t wait to see how this bump develops compared to the bump I had with Rowan.

I’m not entirely sure whether to bombard you with weekly pregnancy updates or perhaps post them fortnightly. I love the idea of documenting weekly as it’ll be something ace to look back on and it’s something I regretted not doing with Rowan.

I couldn’t resist also ordering some super fantastic bump shot props that I’m so excited to share with you that it would be shame not to post each week. I think I’ll start off doing it weekly and then see how that progresses. I’d love to know what you’d prefer to see, and if there’s anything else you think I should include in my updates then send me a little message.

Lovely update Laura! Urgh, ‘morning’ sickness is the worst, really hope it’s coming to an end for you now. I had it so much worse second time around, and it’s so much harder when you have a toddler to deal with too. I’d love to read weekly updates from you. I started off writing weekly ones but found that there wasn’t enough to say so ended up doing fortnightly ones towards the end, so I guess just see what works best for you 🙂 xx

Aww thanks Helen. I only had sickness with Rowan for around four weeks so it’s been really hard to deal with this time around, especially with a toddler to run around after as well. I’m glad it’s not just me that had it worse the second time round 😀 I think I’ll start with weekly updates and then see how it progresses towards the end. Hope you’re ok.xxx

  2. I think weekly would be fabulous and it sounds like that’s what you’re leaning towards yourself?
So glad your sickness is easing off, hopefully you’re through the worst of the sickness now.
Eeek I think you’re right about the flutters as well from what I’ve heard, how amazing that you can feel him/her already?
So excited for the rest of your updates lovely and congratulations again

Aww thanks so much 😀 I think I’m definitely drawn to weekly updates as I think it will be brilliant to look back on it, etc. May ease to fortnightly towards the end if I get too tired!!! I’m sure I’ve felt a few little kicks and Alex thinks he felt something when he had his hand on the bump the other day. At the scan the baby was kicking and punching so I’m not surprised at all! xxx
