18 Weeks Pregnant | Baby #2

I turned 18 weeks pregnant on Wednesday, eek! Unfortunately I’m absolutely full of a cold at the minute after having the flu vaccine last weekend. It’s so annoying as I can’t take anything for it and a hot water with lemon and honey is out of the question, once again I’m feeling a little sorry for myself. Fingers crossed I’ll get this cold out of the way and hopefully that’ll be it before due date.

You may remember last week I wrote about the appointment I had with my antenatal consultant, well thankfully I was able to speak to my wonderful midwife this week and she’s completely reassured me. She told me not to worry and to move it all to the back of my mind until my 36 week appointment with the same consultant. She suggested that I should try and compromise with the consultant and aim to book a c-section in either on my due date or the day after, unless I go into spontaneous labour beforehand.

She also answered a few fears I had about a VBAC, basically I was terrified around the risk of a uterine rupture and she said the risk is less than 1% and little difference from a first time mum during labour. She also said that if I did go into spontaneous labour that the hospital will not let me labour for very long, which again eased my fears. Whilst in labour with Rowan I managed to get to 10cm dilated with one paracetamol and some gas and air, so that bit doesn’t worry me, it’s the pushing bit as it all went very wrong last time with Rowan stuck back to back. Watch this space!

Today has been amazing as although I feel grotty, I’ve also felt so much movement. It’s the first day I’ve felt movements every couple of hours and it’s so reassuring to feel baby wriggling around, hopefully this will now get stronger and stronger each day, exciting!!!

This week baby is the size of a sweet potato (around 6.70 oz and 14.2 cm in length). Bump is still pretty small, I definitely think I was bigger with Rowan at this stage. I lost a stone and a half during the first three months due to awful morning sickness (it was weight that I could afford to lose as it was still pregnancy weight from having Rowan, well that’s what I kept telling myself) so I’m expecting that to start creeping up soon.

I forgot to mention last week that I’m now looking after the Tots100 monthly pregnancy roundup posts. My first roundup was published a couple of weeks ago, so do go and have a little look.

Glad you are feeling reassured. Have you ever looked at gentle c sections? A great option if you elect a c section. Worth googling. I cried watching a video as it looked so magical.
