A few weeks ago I visited The Massage Company in Camberley for a much needed maternity massage. I have to confess I’ve never had a professional massage before, and I can’t believe I’ve left it so long to have one. The experience was absolutely amazing and I’ll definitely be returning.
Beforehand I was a little anxious about how it would all work and had no idea what to expect. My anxieties were put to rest after some lovely emails back and forth from the manager on the run up my appointment.
When I arrived for my treatment I felt immediately comfortable, the reception area felt like a relaxing space and I was greeted by some friendly members of staff. I was offered a drink and we got chatting and they kindly answered a few extra questions I had. I was given a health questionnaire to fill in, it included questions around my general health and any problem areas I had (the usual pregnancy niggles).
I was introduced to my therapist who was a lovely lady called Kate who then led me to the treatment room. The treatment room was a very calming space with relaxing music playing in the background. It was heated to a nice comfortable temperature and smelled absolutely gorgeous too.
Kate discussed with me what the treatment would entail and went through the health questionnaire. Kate then asked if I would like the massage to take place with a normal moisturiser or using a pregnancy safe oil (this does cost a little extra, but absolutely worth it). I chose the oil as it smelled divine.
Kate then explained that I would need to get undressed, leaving my pants on and to get comfortable on the heated massage table beneath the sheet and blanket. As my massage was a pregnancy massage I was also given a very comfortable pregnancy pillow to use, as the massage would take place whilst I was lying on my side. The pillow gave me some extra comfort and kept bump in a safe position.
Kate left the room whilst I got myself ready. After a few minutes she returned, dimmed the lights to a lovely ambient level, then helped me put the pregnancy pillow into position and started the massage.
First up I had a truly amazing foot massage using two pieces of equipment that are completely unique to The Massage Company. Essentially the equipment was two handheld massage machines that vibrated at different rates and were directed to the bottom of my feet to get the blood circulating. I’m normally very ticklish though the pressure was perfect and didn’t tickle at all. Many years ago I suffered with Plantar Fasciitis in both feet (a condition that effects the Plantar Fasciitis tendon in your foot – making it painful to walk) and the foot massage felt so good on that tendon which still feels tender to the touch.
Kate then used the oil to massage my feet by hand, then my legs, back, shoulders and neck. Making sure I was completely covered and the only areas on show were of course my head and the body part being massaged. Whilst giving the massage Kate checked on me regularly to make sure the pressure was as I liked and that I was comfortable. The treatment lasted around 45 minutes, which I think was perfect timing, although I’d have happily stayed there all day.
Once the massage was complete Kate left the room whilst I redressed, there was absolutely no rush for me to get ready and I was able to take my time. Once I was sorted out I was given a glass of water and recommended to keep myself hydrated for the rest of the day.
I highly recommend The Massage Company in Camberley. I’ll definitely be booking in for another pregnancy massage in the New Year when I’m probably going to need it as I’ll be much bigger by then. They are conveniently located near Camberley train station and have parking nearby.
The Massage Company offers an array of treatments including pregnancy massage, deep tissue massage, sports massage and swedish massage. There’s also the opportunity to upgrade the standard massage with extra treatments including hot stones, a scalp massage, aromatherapy and a fantastic foot treatment.
The first treatment at The Massage Company costs only £39.95 (normally costing £79.95). There’s a range of very affordable membership offers that can be paid via monthly direct debit too.
