We are currently at the beginning of our breastfeeding journey with our second little boy and I plan to breastfeed him for as long as possible and as is comfortable for both of us. It always fascinates me to read about and research breastfeeding and SMA® Nutrition have put together an insightful infographic outlining the benefits of protein in breast milk.
During baby’s first 1000 days building a nutritional foundation is high on the agenda, with protein being particularly important, as it gives baby the building blocks required to develop and grow at an appropriate rate. The protein levels in breast milk changes and decreases as baby grows, meaning it contains the correct quality and quantity of protein to help baby grow at a steady rate.
So, in the early weeks when your baby needs to grow quickly and their small tummies can only fit small quantities of milk, meaning the protein content is higher. In later months when the pace of growth steadies and baby is able to fit in more milk, the protein content reduces.
