During the early newborn days, weeks and months it seems you spend a huge amount of time changing your little ones nappy. We certainly have been with our newborn baby boy, Sergio. Just when you think they are all clean and you’ve got them re-dressed, they decide it’s time to be done all over again, and on certain occasions again and again and again! It can feel like a never ending cycle.
It may seem odd though, I really enjoy change time in our home. We always try and make it a fun experience with lots of singing, tickling, smiles (especially now Sergio has started smiling), coos and giggles. It really is the perfect opportunity to bond with your precious little one.
During this time it’s really important to take care of your babies delicate and sensitive skin as those frequent nappy changes can quickly lead to sore bottoms. We try and keep the products we use natural and as pure as possible. In the early days and often at home we simply use water and cotton wool to clean up, then we tend to use baby wipes for the exploding nappies and when out and about as they are much more convenient. We are really conscious of the products we use on our baby’s delicate, developing skin.
With this in mind I’m really excited to announce that we will be working with HUGGIES® as brand ambassadors for the year and their Newborn Wipes are perfect to use on a baby’s delicate skin. HUGGIES® Baby Wipes are different. They are made with natural fibres, gently cleaning and caring for baby’s delicate skin. With 99% water, they are hypoallergenic and clinically tested, completely free from phenoxyethanol, parabens and alcohol – suitable from the first day your baby arrives into the world.
As with all babies it’s perfectly normal for them to get nappy rash. Sergio has had it due to his frequent nappy changes (he hates having even the slightest wet nappy!) and I thought I’d share with you a few of our top tips on how to look after it and prevent it too:
- Keep the area lovely and clean by changing nappies frequently and by using baby wipes suitable for a newborn (or water and cotton wool). The HUGGIES® Newborn Wipes are perfect for this. Try and change their nappy as soon as they have filled it, they will often let you know that something needs seeing to.
- When wiping your baby be as gentle as possible and ensure you dry the area before putting a clean nappy on, you can use cotton wool for this or…
- …allow plenty of naked time to ensure air can get to the delicate area and allow skin to breathe and help with healing. Make sure you have your baby wipes at the ready in case there are any little surprises you need to clean up!
- There are also plenty of natural products and creams on the market that can be used to help soothe your baby’s delicate areas if needed and can be used as a barrier at each nappy change. We tend to only use creams as a last resort.
Babies have such sensitive skin and it’s important that you choose products that are pure, gentle and kind. Which is why we like to look for natural products where we can that we know will be less likely to cause allergies or irritation.
I’d love to know how you care for your little ones delicate skin. Do you have any tips on looking after and preventing nappy rash?
